Using modern computer technology, we strive to produce products that are informative and educational. We want to take the broad range of information from books, websites, and hands-on experiences and make it available to you.

About The Author:

This work has been developed in memory of my son, Jason Garrett Horn (1972-1983) whom loved life and spent many hours with me in the field.

I began with a plant taxonomy class in 1967 and because of my curiosity, I started studying the past and present uses of native species (Ethnobotany). I received a Bachelors Degree in Biology at California State University at Long Beach (1/1967) then began graduate studies in Environmental Biology and finished the course work (6/1968). While doing research for my thesis, I began teaching in 1968. I earned a Masters Degree in Biology with an emphasis in Ecology (1970) at California State University, Long Beach. After teaching for five years, I went to California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and earned a degree in Environmental Horticulture.

Beginning in 1968, I have taught at every level, from Intermediate School through the University level. From 1976 to 2004, I taught at a California Community College (El Camino College) for the Natural Science Division. In 1988 I developed and taught a class on Plant Identification and Native American Uses (Ethnobotany) until my retirement.

My free time is spent with my wife exploring by foot, horse or vehicle in North America and Hawaii. Our emphasis on these trips has been photographing and videoing the flora and fauna.

In 2004 I retired from classroom teaching, which I have loved, but have the desire to continue educating. I have chosen this media to continue that process. I sincerely hope it will be useful.
